JOB: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Architecture after Architecture (Full-time for 30 months)
The position is to work with two established researchers (Tatjana Schneider, TU Braunschweig and Jeremy Till, Central Saint Martins London) on an important new international research project, which investigates the way that the architectural profession, and other practitioners working in the field of the built environment, might operate in the face of the climate emergency. The primary objective of the project, co-funded by the DFG and the AHRC and global in scope, is to develop scenarios for new forms of spatial practice in the context of the climate emergency.
You will be associated with the Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur und Stadt (GTAS) and have the opportunity to make a crucial contribution to the research project, which in turn has the potential to influence future practice and theory in the field. The role includes contributing to an extensive literature review, identifying examples of emerging practices for further categorisation and examination, organising public events, and disseminating the results of the project through a variety of means and formats. The position is based in Braunschweig, but will involve some European travel. A degree of remote working is possible.
Your Profile
You will have experience in a field related to spatial practice, with detailed knowledge of critical urban studies as well as experience in participatory and deliberative research and engagement formats. You will have a PhD (architecture, planning, landscape, ecology, human geography etc.) or equivalent experience in research-based practice. You should be creative in the way you work, including the ability to express ideas clearly and rigorously in written, visual and verbal form. You will also have a clear commitment to addressing the crises that the climate emergency presents, using political, social and economic perspectives to engage with the issues. English will be the main working language, but you should also have good knowledge of German.
